Fair Use Policy

Last updated: 10 July 2026
This is a plain-English summary of our policies, provided for transparency and not as legal advice.

Our Analyst tier is described as offering "unlimited fair use". This page explains what that means, and the limits that apply to every tier. It forms part of our Terms of Service.

What "fair use" means

"Unlimited fair use" means generous limits designed for genuine individual research — the kind of everyday, hands-on questioning a person does while investigating the evidence. It is not a licence for unlimited machine consumption, industrial-scale extraction, or running the Service on behalf of others. In short: use it as much as you like for your own research, but not to hammer or harvest the platform.

Limits that apply to every tier

Whatever tier you are on — Trial, Supporter, Researcher, or Analyst — the following limits apply:

Enforcement

If an account breaches this policy, we may throttle its rate, temporarily suspend it, or terminate it — depending on the severity and whether the behaviour continues. Where we reasonably can, we will get in touch first, but we may act immediately to protect the Service and other users.

Why we have this policy

Answering questions against a large, cited corpus has a real cost. A small number of automated or extractive users can degrade speed and drive up cost for everyone. Fair use keeps the Service fast, reliable, and affordable for the many people using it for honest, individual research.
